About the Organizations
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Awards give students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. In 2024, more than 110,000 teens across the United States and Canada entered more than 340,000 original works in 28 different categories of art and writing.
LACOE is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience for nearly two million students in Los Angeles County, spanning from early education to early adults. Of these nearly two million students, approximately 1.3 million are enrolled in elementary through high schools.
LAUSD is the second largest school district in the nation and the largest in California. Serving over 600,000 students, LAUSD’s strategic plan focuses on students being Ready for the World.
Be Original! Whether you're submitting art, writing or both!
Originality, skill and the emergence of a personal voice/vision are the three criteria used to adjudicate entries.
What You Need To Know
Sign up
Create an account at artandwriting.org/login to enter your work to the 2025 Scholastic Awards. Note: you will need the email address of a parent or guardian.
Create and Upload Your Work
The Scholastic Awards looks for work that demonstrates originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. After you create your work, you can upload it to your Scholastic Awards Account. Once you have logged in, follow the instructions to upload all of your entries into the system. Every category has specific requirements so please read the Copyright & Plagiarism Guidelines and Category Descriptions carefully. Note: you will need your educator's email address.
The LA Region Scholastic Art & Writing Awards waives the entry fee to promote equity and access to all students in the region.
Please visit the entry process videos designed to help guide students through creating accounts, uploading original works, and completing their entries.
Questions should be directed to LARegionAwards@lacoe.edu
Educators and students are strongly recommended to read through the category descriptions and copyright & plagiarism guidelines before uploading any work. Students are responsible for submitting their work to the proper category and ensuring it adheres to our guidelines. Visit artandwriting.org for more information.
Make time to create a profile if you do not already have one. Avoid submission errors by carefully completing all required fields and uploading your work well before the deadline.
Double Check Your Email Address
Email is our primary method of communication with students, which means if you enter it incorrectly, you will miss out on IMPORTANT information about scholarship opportunities, free workshops, etc. If you are able, include an email you check often.
Parents and guardians must provide parental permission in order for their child to enter work. When creating a profile, students will be prompted to provide a parent or guardian email. The parent or guardian will receive a notification in their email which they must approve for their child’s work to be entered into judging.
Provide Accurate Parent/Guardian Contact Information.
It is important that we have parent/guardian contact information to clearly communicate through the awards process. We can only send parents/guardians communications if their contact information is provided within a student's profile. Additionally, because many students often fail to check their email regularly, it is recommended that they provide parent/guardian contact information to avoid missing out on special opportunities.
- DO NOT include your name in the title of your submission. For example, if your name is Roberto Sanchez.
- DO NOT title your portfolio, Roberto Sanchez's Portfolio. Your submission may be disqualified for violating our blind adjudications policy.
- DO NOT include your name in your submission's text. For example, if your name is Roberto Sanchez and the title of your Digital Art submission is One Day, the first lines of text should NOT be One Day by Roberto Sanchez. Your submission may be disqualified for violating our anonymous judging policy.
We will prioritize responding to questions that are not already answered on the FAQ page. Read the FAQ page thoroughly before forwarding questions to LARegionAwards@lacoe.edu as you may not receive a response if the answer to your question can be found there.
Please share the following information in your correspondence:
