Beginning Teacher Programs Induction Program is competitively priced and allows its candidates to make monthly payments for their tuition. Please note that LACOE does not provide financial aid.

Payment Information

All payments are to be made payable to LACOE - Beginning Teacher Programs (BTP) via credit/debit card only. BTP uses a third party -"allpaid" platform - to make online credit/debit card payments. BTP currently incurs the "transaction fee" for candidate payments. **Therefore, the transaction is a free service to all BTP candidate payments.

**Please keep in mind that the "transaction fee," although presently a free service provided by BTP to candidates, may be subject to change as BTP finds it necessary.

There is a non-refundable transaction fee of 2.5%, even if the payment to which it relates is canceled, refunded, credited, or charged back.  **The only exception to this policy is if BTP receives written notification immediately after the transaction is initiated and within a two (2) hour period after the payment is made.

*Program fees subject to change.

All tuition and fees are non-refundable.

Senate Bill 57 was designed to allow eligible individuals who are experienced and exceptional the opportunity to complete the Induction program at an accelerated pace.  Early Completion Option (ECO) participants have the opportunity to complete the Induction program in one year.  This option is available to exceptional candidates who meet the eligibility criteria listed below and demonstrate extraordinary knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies required of all participating teachers who complete the full-length program.  All candidates are notified of the ECO option at the time of enrollment in the program. ECO is equally rigorous as the full-length program, although shorter in length (1-Year).

Application Process
  • All candidates will be informed of the ECO criteria at the information and advisement meetings
  • Candidates who believe they are eligible for the ECO will complete and submit the application by the specified deadline
  • The application includes the items listed in the graphic below

Eligibility

To be eligible for early completion, participating teachers must:

  • Hold a Preliminary Multiple, Single Subject or Education Specialist Credential
  • Provide evidence of two or more years of successful full-time teaching experience as the teacher of record in a teaching assignment that matches the Preliminary or Level I credential (EXPERIENCED)
    • The ECO candidate must provide documentation of at least two years of full-time teaching experience in their credential area. Acceptable experience includes completing an intern program, teaching out-of-state, or teaching at an accredited private school. Substitute teaching, student teaching, permits, waivers, or paraeducator experience are not acceptable.
  • The ECO candidate must provide two verified, rigorous performance evaluations from prior successful teaching experience in the subject area listed on their credential. (EXCEPTIONAL)
    •
  • Executive Order Credential Holders:
Teachers with a preliminary credential that specifies that they must complete either one or both cycles of the Teacher Preparation Assessment (TPA) or pass the Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA) in addition to induction, are expected to make significant progress in completing these requirements during the two year process of induction. Until the candidate submits proof to the Induction Coordinator that all credential renewal requirements have been successfully met, the program cannot submit the recommendation for the professional clear credential. Because of the additional time and work requirements necessary for completion of the TPA, teachers whose credential specifies that they must complete one or both cycles of that assessment will not be eligible for the Early Completion Option (ECO) one year program.

ECO Application Materials
  • Resume
  • Two Final Adminstrator Evaluations from the prior successful teaching experience showing exceptional performance
  • District Recommendation (LACOE form)
  • Letter of Recommendation from current evaluator
  • Mentor Recommendation (LACOE form)
  • Candidate Letter
  • $300 non-refundable application fee

If a participating ECO candidate is not successfully progressing on pace for early completion of the program or if the teacher fails to demonstrate skills and abilities on a level expected of and consistent with an early completion candidate, adjustments will be made as deemed necessary and appropriate by Program Coordinators.  ECO status is provisional and can be revoked at any time.

Beginning Teacher Program's Induction Program utilizes Canvas as it's Learning Management System. Candidates work with a mentor weekly through six modules in two years. Each module includes core documentation as well as additional evidence. Candidates are also required to attend a total of three Teacher Learning Communities (TLC) over the course of two years. The graphic below gives an overview of the modules.

How to apply?

How much does the Induction Program cost?
The cost for the Induction Program is $250 for the non-refundable advisement fee and $2,000 per year (for two years) for tuition. If your school/district/charter does not subsidize/pay for mentor support, the cost of mentor support is an additional $2,000 per year.

Do I have to pay for the Induction Program up front?
The $250 non-refundable advisement fee is due up front, but the tuition payments are made in monthly installments from October - May.

How do I obtain my transcripts for my work in the Induction Program?
We do not offer official sealed transcripts for work completed in the Induction Program. Verification of completion can be accessed by printing a grade report from Canvas. See your Canvas account's Pages tab for more information. The only exception to this is for those that completed SpEd Induction prior to 2015. If you completed SpEd Induction prior to 2015, transcripts can be requested here.

How do I make a payment for the Induction Program?
Click here to access information on how to make a payment.

How long does it take to complete the Induction Program?
The standard Induction Program takes two years to complete. If a candidate applies for and is accepted in to the Early Completion Option (ECO) Program, it can be completed in one year.

What if I already have a Clear or Level II credential? Do I need to complete Induction?
No. On March 7, 2019 Title 5 was amended to allow an educator who already holds a clear teaching credential in one area, general education or special education, to be granted a clear teaching credential in a new credential type, in special education or general education, upon completion of the appropriate preliminary teacher preparation program without being required to complete an additional induction experience.

How do I enroll in the Induction Program?
The first step to enrolling in the Induction Program is to register for and attend an Information Meeting. Click here to find the registration link.

Can I clear my credential online?
LACOE BTP does not currently offer an online only option to complete Induction. The program includes meeting face to face and occasionally online with a mentor weekly for the duration of the program.

Do General Education & Education Specialists complete the same Induction Program?
Yes, the program is the same. Candidates are matched with mentors with a similar credential type (if available) to help tailor the program to meet a candidate's needs.

My preliminary credential is expired. Can I enroll in Induction?
No. Candidates need a valid Preliminary Credential that will last the duration of the Induction Program (2-years).

Who do I contact if I need an extension for my Preliminary Credential?
Contact Karen Valle for more information about extensions (valle_karen@lacoe.edu). Please note that only current Induction candidates can obtain assistance in applying for a credential extension. Prospective candidates must obtain a position as "Teacher of Record" in order to to qualify for assistance with an extension.

If I was let go or resigned from my school, can I still participate in Induction?
No. Per the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, all candidates must be "Teacher of Record" in order to participate in Induction. If a candidate is let go or resigns, their Induction Program is automatically put on hold.

If I already completed a year of Induction with another agency/district, can I complete Year Two with LACOE BTP?
Yes, but you must provide evidence of completion of Year One from your former agency/district.
