“Learning acceleration is a system-wide approach that strategically tackles unfinished learning using a whole-child approach. This includes using formative data, a deep understanding of learning progressions, and a relational approach to accelerate learning. Students engaged in acceleration access a laser-focused, high-quality, and rich learning experience by moving students forward and setting them up for success with just-in-time training on required foundational skills. An acceleration approach, in essence, is about building bridges rather than filling holes.”-CCEE’s Playbook for Accelerating Learning.

The Learning Acceleration and Academic Support unit is the path to equity and excellence, committed to learning recovery by providing educators with a robust infrastructure and high-quality professional learning to create accessible learning experiences through Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and accelerate students' learning.

The Learning and Acceleration and Academic Support unit leverages the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework, which builds capacity among educators to universally design learning experiences to be inclusive and promote student agency, while maintaining rigor and grade-level expectations.

Through practical application of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework, educators who work with us foster conditions for equitable instruction for all students, including students with disabilities and English Learners. Our work is based upon California state standards for literacy and language development as well as research- and evidence-based practices of CAST, Inc.--the creators behind UDL. We are part of California's System of Support and largely funded by the California Department of Education Workforce Investment Grant (EWIG).

Support for teachers, coaches, paraprofessionals, and administrators is provided via professional development and technical support in the following areas:

  • Foundations of UDL

  • UDL and Best First Instruction (Tier 1 MTSS)

  • Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)

  • Coaching & Admin Network: UDL

  • Accessibility for All
