Artificial intelligence is reshaping how we teach, learn and lead. On March 24, 2025, district leaders from across Los Angeles County came together for the “K-12 School District Leadership AI Summit” to explore how this powerful technology can be used responsibly and strategically in K–12 education. Hosted by the Los Angeles County Office of Education and the Center for Digital Education, the summit was designed to equip superintendents and senior leadership teams with the tools, insights and strategies to lay the groundwork for districtwide AI adoption.
As AI continues to transform the educational landscape, district leaders are uniquely positioned to guide its thoughtful, equitable and effective implementation. The summit addressed the critical need for governance, literacy and leadership as AI moves from theory to practice across schools.
The summit offered a robust lineup of sessions and workshops tailored to the distinct needs of L.A. County school districts. Attendees explored AI opportunities and risks, learned to assess their district’s readiness and began building actionable governance frameworks. Interactive discussions highlighted how AI can enhance instruction, streamline operations and support data-informed decision-making.
The event included a District AI success stories panel, featuring leaders from Hacienda La Puente, Los Nietos, San Gabriel, and Torrance school districts. From instructional innovation to operational efficiency, panelists discussed both challenges and key takeaways from their AI implementation.
The summit concluded with a showcase of LACOE’s AI Guidelines, including templates and equity-focused implementation strategies developed to support districts at every stage of their AI journey.
As AI becomes an integral part of modern education, LACOE is committed to ensuring that every district has the support and guidance needed to lead responsibly. By investing in professional learning, sharing success stories and building governance capacity, district leaders left the summit empowered to shape a future where AI serves all students—thoughtfully, equitably and effectively.
