Statement on Executive Order to Dismantle the Department of Education

"I urge Congress to recognize the gravity of this action and oppose any measures that would lead to the dissolution of the Department of Education."
"I am deeply concerned about President Trump's executive order to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education. This decision threatens decades of progress in education, particularly for vulnerable students.
The Department of Education ensures critical protection and support for students with disabilities, low-income children and those experiencing homelessness. The elimination of this federal department will disrupt essential services, increase disparities and place students at greater risk of discrimination.
Education is the cornerstone of a thriving democracy and a fair society. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, has access to quality education and the support they need to succeed. Dismantling the Department of Education undermines this fundamental principle and threatens the future of countless students.
I urge Congress to recognize the gravity of this action and oppose any measures that would lead to the dissolution of the Department of Education. I furthermore urge our legislators, educators, parents and community members to stand united in protecting the rights and opportunities of all students. We must preserve the structures that safeguard educational fairness and continue to advocate for a system that serves every child's needs.
Let us not turn our backs on the progress we have made but instead reaffirm our commitment to an inclusive and fair educational system for all."
