L.A. County School Closures Due To Fires and Weather Conditions

Several L.A. County school districts and schools are reporting closures due to the fires and weather conditions in the area.
The following LA County school districts and schools are reporting closures for Thursday, January 9, 2025 due to the fires and weather conditions in the area. Some schools are also closed through Friday, January 10, as noted below.
- Alhambra Unified School District
- Arcadia Unified School District
- Compton Unified School District
- Culver City Unified School District
- Beverly Hills Unified School District
- Burbank Unified School District (closed through Jan. 10)
- Duarte Unified School District
- Garvey School District
- Glendale Unified School District (closed through Jan. 10)
- Glendora Unified School District
- La Canada Unified (closed through Jan. 10)
- Los Angeles Unified School District
- Monrovia Unified School District
- Pasadena Unified School District (closed through Jan. 10)
- Rosemead Unified School District
- San Gabriel Unified School District

Kenter Canyon Charter Elementary, Canyon Charter Elementary School, Marquez Charter Elementary School, Palisades Charter Elementary School, Paul Revere Charter Middle School, and Topanga Elementary Charter School are closed.
Palisades Charter High School, an independent charter high school, is not currently in session.
Griffith Park is closed. The Zoo Magnet at North Hollywood High School will not have classes at the Los Angeles Zoo. Students and staff will report to the North Hollywood High School main campus.
- Los Angeles County Office of Education: Barry J Nidorf, Campus Kilpatrick and Boys Republic are closed today.

School Resources
- To help schools avoid funding losses due to closures caused by wildfires, the California Department of Education (CDE) is encouraging charter schools, school districts, and county offices of education to submit J-13A waiver requests. J-13A waivers are used in cases of emergency school closures to prevent the loss of attendance-based funding. More information can be found on the CDE Form J-13A web page.
- The CDE released updated School Outdoor Air Quality Activity Recommendations (PDF) last year, providing local educational agencies with resources to make informed decisions about conducting school activities and closures based on local air quality conditions when communities are impacted by wildfire smoke.
