Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District's Benton Middle School of the Visual and Performing Arts has been recognized as an Exemplary School by the Arts Schools Network (ASN), the nation’s largest professional organization for specialized arts schools. This prestigious five-year designation, awarded for 2024–2029, highlights Benton’s unwavering commitment to excellence in arts education.

Benton Middle School is known for its innovative approach to integrating arts into education. With a block schedule that ensures all students can access a wide array of visual and performing arts courses, Benton offers programs in music, dance, theater, photography, video production, digital/media arts, studio art, cartooning and more.
