2024 Superintendents' Professional Collaborative Conference

Education leaders from L.A. County's 80 school districts gathered to tackle future education challenges at the 2024 Superintendents' Professional Collaborative Conference.

On Friday, Nov. 8 the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach hosted the 2024 Superintendents' Professional Collaborative Conference and welcomed administrators from across the region to the event, themed "Full Steam Ahead: Educating New Generations," where leaders mapped strategies to transform education for future students.

Author and CEO Mark C. Perna delivered the keynote address, "Unleashing Passion, Purpose, and Performance in Younger Generations," sharing research-backed strategies for engaging modern learners. Perna, who specializes in generational dynamics in education and careers, distributed copies of his book "Answering the Why" to attendees.

The conference sparked discussions on empowering new generations of learners. Leaders shared successful programs and explored breakthrough approaches to boost student engagement and career readiness across the county's diverse school communities. 

Superintendents used networking sessions to develop partnerships and share successful practices across districts. The afternoon spotlighted educational excellence, honoring outstanding superintendents and cabinet members.  

The afternoon ceremony honored Dr. Denise Jaramillo from Alhambra USD as 2024 Superintendent of the Year and Cabinet Members of the Year, which went to:

  • Dr. Dawnalyn Murakawa-Leopard, Manhattan Beach USD, Business/Finance 

  • Kristine Nam, Glendale USD, Communications

  • Dr. Kelly King, Glendale USD, Education Services 

  • Dr. Michele Doll, Covina-Valley USD, Human Resources

  • Joey Strycula, Charter Oak USD, Student Services 

  • Dr. Patrick Gittistriboongul, Lynwood USD, Technology

These leaders earned recognition for advancing equity, fostering innovation and strengthening community partnerships. 

Afternoon breakout sessions included workshops on:  

  •  Generative AI adoption in K-12 education  

  •  Student and community empowerment strategies

  •  Mandated reporting reform  

  • Educational philanthropy
