Our “2023-24 Los Angeles County School Counselor and Social Worker of the Year” awards have been named as Angela Medina Martinez and Kevin Brown, respectively. 

Angela has served as a counselor since 2021, supporting students’ academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs, leading initiatives like College and Career Week, and helping foster a positive school climate. Kevin has been with Centinela Valley Union High School District since 2016, leading counseling services and mental health support, suicide prevention and staff trainings across multiple school sites.

Both were nominated for their dedication and the positive impact they have on their school communities. The award program is organized by LACOE’s Mental Health and School Counseling Unit (MHSC), which provides consultation, coaching and professional development to support the mental health and well-being of students and educators in Los Angeles County.

Angela and Kevin will be honored at an awards banquet on November 7, 2024.
