Small actions can lead to significant positive impacts on our environment and air quality.
Clean Air Day, on October 2, 2024, serves as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility we all share in ensuring a cleaner and healthier future for our communities. LACOE is proud to participate in Clean Air Day to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
Employee Actions
This year, LACOE challenged employees to take a critical look at their waste management practices by recycling their office trash and eliminating their desk trash cans.
By sorting their waste into the appropriate bins and getting rid of their desk trash cans, staff members contributed to reducing the amount of trash sent to landfills and minimizing the environmental impact of waste disposal. This initiative aligned with the state's SB1383 law, which mandates organic waste recycling to divert food scraps and yard waste from landfills.
Leadership in Action
LACOE’s commitment to Clean Air Day extended beyond our office walls. Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Debra Duardo joined forces with Los Angeles County Supervisors Lindsey Horvath and Hilda Solis and other community leaders in a press conference on September 26, 2024, to raise awareness about the importance of clean air and the role of businesses in environmental stewardship.
Both Dr. Duardo and Supervisor Horvath were co-chairs of the Los Angeles Regional Clean Air Day Committee. At the press conference, Dr. Duardo used the platform to encourage schools to implement educational programs that teach students about the importance of clean air and empower them to become environmental stewards. By understanding the causes and effects of air pollution, students can make informed choices and take action to protect their environment.
As we move forward, we remain committed to fostering a culture of sustainability and environmental awareness, ensuring that every day is an opportunity to contribute to cleaner air and a healthier planet. By engaging our employees and joining forces with community leaders, we're demonstrating that small actions can lead to significant positive impacts on our environment and air quality.
