Students and school districts are encouraged to join thousands of others in taking action by signing the Clean Air Day Pledge.
California Clean Air Day is calling on individuals and organizations to join the fight for cleaner air. By signing the pledge, you can help create a healthier and more sustainable future for your community.
As the co-chair of the Greater Los Angeles Clean Air Day Committee, I’m encouraging students and school districts to join thousands of others in taking action by signing the Clean Air Day Pledge.
The Los Angeles County Board of Education has passed a resolution recognizing October 2, 2024, as California Clean Air Day and calls upon districts, schools and other educational organizations in the County to pledge their support in helping clear the air for all Californians. LACOE will celebrate the steps that staff have taken to contribute to clean air and California Clean Air Day with a gathering outside the Education Center that morning.
What does it mean to pledge?
Educate: Implement educational programs and activities that teach students about air pollution, its causes, and its effects.
Reduce: Take steps to reduce your school's carbon footprint by conserving energy, conserving water and promoting sustainable transportation.
Engage: Encourage students, staff, and the community to participate in clean air initiatives and events.
What can students do to help?
Walk, bike, or carpool: Choose active transportation whenever possible.
Reduce waste: Recycle and compost to reduce the amount of trash that goes to landfills.
Conserve energy: Turn off lights and appliances when not in use and unplug electronics when they are not in use.
Plant trees: Trees help to absorb air pollution and provide shade.
Educate others: Spread awareness about air pollution and its effects.
Why should you join?
Improve health: Clean air is essential for good health, especially for children. By reducing air pollution, we can help protect the well-being of our students and staff.
Create a healthier environment: A cleaner environment benefits everyone, from wildlife to future generations.
Set a positive example: By taking action, we can inspire others to do the same and create a more sustainable future.
