Please see a list of resources, lesson plans and recommended readings for use throughout the month to celebrate African American Month.
February is African American History Month. During this month, and throughout the year, we encourage our education community to honor and celebrate the achievements of African Americans. We want to recognize the countless ways in which African Americans have contributed to American culture and how they have led the way in advocating for civil rights, inclusion and racial equity.
Through our Ethnic Studies Symposium Series, LACOE is presenting a special day of African American Studies on February 15, 2023, at the Museum of African American Art. The event will feature Associate Professor and Founding Director of the Center for K-12 Black History and Racial Literacy Education, Dr. LaGarrett J. King, and Ethnic Studies and Social Science Teacher from Culver City Unified School District, Dr. Kimberly Young.
Below you will find a list of resources, lesson plans and recommended readings for use throughout the month and beyond.
