Social workers go through years of education and training so they can help individuals, families, communities and our society reach their full potential. LACOE supports and celebrates Los Angeles County School Social Workers through undergraduate and graduate student workforce development and practicum instructor, the provision of school social work professional development and through our annual School Social Worker of the Year award and celebratory event.
Throughout the month of March we encourage all of our Los Angeles schools, communities and partners to join us in celebrating the contributions and impactful work social workers do to support students, families and their communities.
During the week of March 2-8, 2025, we focus specifically on celebrating school social workers during National School Social Work Week. The theme for School Social Work Week 2025 is “Unite to Ignite: Celebrating our Impact.” During the school year, school social workers are confronted with challenges, heightened anxieties and anticipated difficulties. However, school social workers face these challenges with strength and resilience.
National School Social Work Week celebrates the collective power and passion of school social workers who unite communities to ignite positive change in the lives of students, families and schools. This year's theme, "Unite to Ignite: Celebrating our Impact," highlights the vital role school social workers play in fostering connections, advocating for equity and driving social and emotional growth. It’s a time to honor the difference made by empowering others and working together to overcome challenges, ensuring all students thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
During National Social Work Month, our school social workers in Los Angeles County LEAs will be celebrated through a variety of special events and resource sharing, aimed at recognizing their contributions and enhancing learning.
